Stanley knife
Single edge razor blades
Squeegee
Paper towel
Straight edge
Instructions
The adhesive surface of the film is very strong, its important to work in dust free and lint free environment.
During drying out some haziness will be evident and this will disappear and dry out over a 2-4 week period.
Do not apply to rough or cast glass surfaces
Do not apply to any surface that curves in two directions
Do not apply in direct sunlight
- Preparation and pre-cleaning are vitally important and care must be taken to flush any dirt particles out of the window frame. Thoroughly wash/clean entire window, removing paint, varnish, fibers, irregular putty lines or other foreign matter with a scraper. Squeegee dry.
- Window film may be cut to approximate size with a very sharp blade. It is recommended that the film be cut at least ½” longer and wider than the glass. Note: separate a corner of the window film and liner with 2 small pieces of adhesive tape on either side of the product.
- 3. Applying the film:
- Thoroughly wet glass with the detergent solution. Place film on glass with liner facing you. Carefully peel off the liner from the ready separated corner. Spray the adhesive surface generously with detergent solution (you cannot apply too much solution).
- Carefully reverse film onto glass so that the adhesive side is now in contact with the glass. Note: Keep film straight, do not allow film to curl up on itself or wrinkle. A crease or wrinkle will not flatten out on application.
- Position film by gently sliding on wet surface and smoothing out large air bubbles. Ensure all glass area is covered by film.
- Wet film with solution to give slip for the squeegee.
- Squeegee angle should be high, close to 90 degrees to prevent scratching the film, only use rubber squeegee never cloth or sponge.
- The first stroke should be horizontal across the top of the window.
- The next stroke should be downward from one edge with succeeding strokes working down and away from the first strokes, until the window is completely removed of excess water.
- On final squeegee of the top and bottom edges the squeegee may be pushed toward the edge to remove excess water.
- If a particle is trapped behind the film, carefully lift the film from the nearest corner and remove the particles. Before replacing the film, spray sufficient solution to thoroughly wet the glass and film. Replace the film and re-squeegee.
4. Film Trimming
- Using a straight edge, or yard stick (should have about a 2-3 mm thickness), place it on end at the edge of the window
- Trim the film using a razor blade or stanley knife so that there is a margin width of the straight edge 1-3 mm
- Repeat for each edge of the window. After trimming, remove excess film
- Repeat entire squeegee procedure. A firm pressure is necessary to effect a strong bond.
- When trimming and final squeegeeing is completed wrap a paper towel over edge or squeegee and carefully and completely dry edges of film.
- The film should be thoroughly dry and fixed within 24 hours
Care: Clean windows as normal after 4 weeks and always with a soft cloth and clean water. Avoid contact with hard or sharp edges and any abrasive materials.
Film Removal: If at a later date you would like to remove film, simply sponge window with warm water to loosen adhesive, then peel off the window film from the shortest edge. Any film and adhesive left on the glass can be removed with a scraper and methylated spirit.
